Field log

What we've been on

One job a month, written up — what came in, what it turned out to be, and what it took to put it right.

Job of the month
  1. Standby 65kVA genset not starting

No fuel being delivered — a combination of the lift pump failing and the pre-fuel filter being clogged. Replaced them both, cleaned out the lines and bled the system, ran it up under load and left it back on auto.

  2. Annual service on 330kVA standby unit

Replaced all filters and oil, tested coolant and performed running checks — including a combustion leak test and a cooling efficiency test.

  3. New battery flat complaint

Attended a marine generator where the client had reported replacing the start battery twice in three months. Attempted to start the generator and noticed a big voltage drop. Found a seized engine causing the starter motor to load up and drain the battery. Diagnosed a failed salt water exhaust mixer leaking salt water back into the cylinder. Quoted replacement.

  4. 6kVA Honda not starting

Scheduled in for a service and carburettor clean. Found scale built up inside causing a clogged jet. Removed the scale, cleaned it out and replaced the oil and spark plug.

Capability

Four things we get called for

Whether it's a genset in an engine room or a standby unit behind a switchboard, the work is the same discipline: find the real fault, fix it properly, and write down what we found.

Service line01

Marine generators

Onboard gensets on commercial vessels, charter boats and private craft — the units that keep air-conditioning, refrigeration and navigation live at anchor.

  • Scheduled hour-based servicing
  • Cooling, exhaust and raw-water systems
  • Fuel, injection and starting faults
  • Vibration mounts, alignment and sea trials
Service line02

Standby & industrial

Land-based diesel plant that has to carry the site when mains power drops — backup sets, prime power and hire units.

  • Scheduled and condition-based servicing
  • Controller, ATS and changeover faults
  • Alternator, AVR and charging systems
  • Batteries, block heaters and fuel polishing
Service line03

Load bank & commissioning

A set that has never been loaded is an untested set. We prove capacity under real load and document the result.

  • Resistive load bank testing to rated output
  • Step-load and full-load runs
  • New installation commissioning
  • Written test record for your compliance file
Service line04

Breakdown attendance

Won't crank, won't hold load, shutting down on alarm. We come to the vessel or the site, diagnose it on the spot, and tell you straight what it needs.

  • After-hours and weekend callouts
  • Controller fault and alarm interrogation
  • On-site repair where parts allow
  • Clear quote before any major work

Equipment

What we work on

Diesel and gas sets across the range you'd expect on a working coast — from a few kVA in a lazarette to standby plant behind a main switchboard.

How a job runs

From your call to the report

The order matters — each step depends on the one before it, and skipping the diagnosis stage is how generators get parts thrown at them.

STEP 01

You call

Tell us the make, model and what it's doing. We confirm whether it's a callout or a booked service, and when we can be there.

STEP 02

We attend

On site or alongside. We record the nameplate details and pull the controller statistics before touching anything.

STEP 03

Diagnose

Fault-find from the evidence — alarms, readings, condition — not from guesswork. You get told what's actually wrong.

STEP 04

Rectify

Repaired on the spot where parts allow. Anything larger is quoted before it starts, with the options explained.

STEP 05

Report

A written technician report covering findings, work performed and outstanding items — issued after every visit.

Documentation

You get it in writing. Every time.

Plenty of generator work disappears into a verbal handover and a line on an invoice. Ours doesn't. Every attendance produces a CMD technician service report — the same format whether it's a fifteen-minute alarm reset or a full commissioning run.

  • Equipment details recorded from the nameplate
  • Controller statistics captured at the visit
  • Findings separated from work performed
  • Recommendations and outstanding items listed
  • Signed off by technician and client

It builds a service history you can hand to a surveyor, an insurer or the next owner — and it means the next technician on the job isn't starting from zero.

Where we go

Based in Townsville. Working the coast.

The workshop is in Townsville City. Most work is mobile — we come to the vessel, the marina or the site.

Townsville

City, marinas, port precinct and surrounds — standard callout area.

North Queensland

Regional attendance up and down the coast by arrangement.

On the water

Alongside at the marina, on the hardstand, or at anchor by arrangement.

Remote sites

Standby plant on sites away from town — travel quoted up front.

Get in touch

Book a service or report a breakdown

Tell us what the unit is and what it's doing. The more you can give us from the nameplate and the controller, the better prepared we arrive.
